Giving Something Back
I am blessed. We don't always take the time to think about just how fortunate we are, but it's true. I have more blessings in my life than I can count and thankfully, not too many hardships. I have been so fortunate to have given birth to four perfectly healthy babies after four (pretty much) uncomplicated pregnancies.
I know so many people that are not so lucky. I have brilliant friends to have struggled long and hard to conceive (some never getting there). I have friends who were blessed to be pregnant but never got to meet their precious child. I have friends who met their angel babies only to have to say good-bye far too soon.
I truly know how fortunate (that is not any where near a strong enough word to describe it) I am to be in the position I am right now and I know that on balance, I need to give something back to the universe for the gifts it has given me.
My way of doing that is volunteering with an organisation called Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS for short) that offers heirloom portraiture to families who suffer the loss of a child either before, during or shortly after birth. These families not only have to suffer the horrors of saying good-bye to the child they never got to know but they are left with this hole that can never be filled. They have a child that many friends and family are afraid to mention, a child who they never got to bring home or capture images with. That is where NILMDTS comes in.
These amazing volunteer photographers go to families at one of the worst times in their lives and helps them to capture some truly precious and irreplaceable images of their child. To have photographs, beautiful, tasteful, timeless images of your child that you can share, that you can place on your mantle piece, that acknowledges your child's existence is so important to families.
I am so glad to be able to do what I do and be a part of an amazing organization with an amazing group of volunteers, not just the photographers but everyone taking calls, editing images and doing 1,000,000 and one things behind the scenes so that this gift can me made available to as many families as possible.
I am going to keep doing what I do....... you keep loving your precious ones and tell them every day how much you adore them. They, and we, are all miracles.
